OK Shawn,
I'm sorry to be sensitive but I have stood too many times at the bike shop service counter while the men around got service because it is assumed I must be with someone.I am new to kayaking, cycling Southern Calif has been my sport. We did 6 days in the Keys - 3 dedicated to kayaking. Using our own tents and coolers filled with food we camped on these "no frills catamarans" I don't own a kayak so this gave me a chance to really see how I like it before buying. At the risk of sounding like an ad this company has all levels of support, from none which is what we had, to actual tours.
We moored in 3 different areas of the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary, using un-invasive anchors. Camping off shore down there is almost a necessity because of the bugs, on shore they will eat you alive. I am not used to that, in Calif we don't have bugs. Kayaking was great, exhausting but great. Warm blue water, nights so clear it seemed like you could touch the stars, the puff sound of porpoise breathing in the dark and a sea turtle just inches under my kayak as if racing me out into the Gulf. (he won) Now I am in the market for a sea kayak if anyone has a suggestions. The equipment we used in Florida was great.
By the way, about that enemy . . . you have a point but I think if we can slow down the Disney Worlds, 7 Elevens and Winn Dixies while using these treasures with kind regard we can enjoy the outdoors and still preserve. We just need to get the Fed and State government on the program. If anybody has kayak purchase suggestions let me know. This kinda long . . .
Good talking to you.
Peggy: Hi Peggy,
: No, gender has nothin' to do with it. It was just the tone of your post that
: may have thrown some folks off.: Usually folks gush about the scenery, and say little about the guides....
: and the fact that you hadn't posted here before is often a sign that someone
: is SPAMming. SPAMmers have gotten more sophisticated these days, so people
: have grown more wary.: Most spammers don't reply to the replies to their posts, or offer well
: thought-out responses at that.: A lot of posters are from the NW, NE, or Great Lakes. Few of us have paddled
: down there....please elaborate!!! We may not flock down there in droves to
: see what you saw, but we can at least paddle vicariously through your
: description.: My apologies,
: Shawn
