I camped at the State Park there 3 years ago. Most of the campground was over run with RVs but the walk in tent sites were actually away far "from the maddening crowds" up on a hill with a nice view. We rented kayaks for a couple of hours and paddled out to a small island 3/4 of a mile off shore.

My opinion is if you want to do some more involved kayaking it is fine but you won't find seclusion there.
