Mike was definitely the "Stud" on this trip. I didn't want to tell my wife, but I was so jealous that he had the opportunity to circumnavigate the whole island. I felt way too tired to be able to paddle a double on two 15+ mile days, and I was also responsible for my wife's welfare, and to some extent, my brother Dan's, and his friend Paula's. If I had been alone, I probably would have done it--as it was, I felt responsible for those other people, and I really did make the best choice. Still, I'm sooo jealous of Mike for completing my big goal before I did!!
We decided to try some crabbing there in Mitchell Bay. We borrowed a CD Libra kayak from my cousins in Seattle for Dan and Paula to paddle (Michelle and I used Dale's G'Triple, and Dale used my Chesapeake) and also borrowed one of their crab traps. They told us we could purchase a crab license from the resort, but the resort didn't have any in.
Michelle and I tried to take a nap, but some noisy asshole powerboaters moved into the campsite next to us, making sleep all but impossible, so Mike and I decided to take the short (11 mi) drive back to Friday Harbor so I could buy a crab license. When we returned, I dropped the trap in the bay, and layed down for some rest, even if the noise made sleep impossible. I could tell Mike was pretty tired, but I think he was still so excited from his morning's experience that he couldn't nap. That, or he needs a lot less sleep than I do!
Meanwhile, Dan, Paula, and Dale paddled out of the bay and down the south shore of San Juan. They later wondered aloud why they paddled that way, especially since our trip route the next day would take us down the same shore. They should have paddled up to the north to see territory that only Mike saw on this trip.
After a quick snooze, I went out to check the trap line. I caught 5 legal-sized crabs, but every darn one of them was female, so I released them all, and returned to camp for a huge pasta meal. (Except the meat du jour was hamburger and not crab!)
I'll let Mike continue his recount of the trip, since he's done so well with the first two installments.

My link is incomplete right now, but I'll have the stories and photos there in less than a week.
: Circumnavigation of San Juan Island, Part 2
: When I was heading up the hill to the campsite, I looked up and saw that
: there were vehicles in the site already. I also noticed a very familiar
: triple kayak, complete with the black walnut deck. Dale’s kayak was here!
: That meant that they were here. I asked if I could join them. They seemed
: happy to see me. After not getting much sleep they had decided to skip the
: first leg. They had tried to call me, but I didn’t go home after the
: Rendezvous. Dale got up early and went to the ferry. He couldn’t find me,
: so he drove onto the 6:15 ferry hoping to find me on the other side. When
: I didn’t show up, he drove to Snug Harbor. Shawn, Michelle, Dan, and Paula
: came across two ferries later (the one after mine). They drove to camp and
: got there about an hour before I did. They all figured I decided not to go
: on the trip, they had tried everything to get in touch with me but to no
: avail. It all worked out okay though. If they had contacted me, I would
: not have been able to do a complete circumnavigation. I had a good day’s
: solo paddle in beautiful weather and calm water, through one of the most
: scenic places on earth, and was still able to meet up with friends. They
: are friends now; shortly before the trip I had only spoken to them over
: the internet. By the end of the trip I did not want to say goodbye.: Please watch part 3 and pictures from Shawn and Dale later. Thank you again
: for being patient.
