I see no reason why you can't use a sea kayak in the grand canyon. I vaguely remember hear about people doing it. I won't see it as being much of a challenge relative to other boats. (obviously it is a challenge in any boat). My feeling of the Grand Canyon does not need manuverability. More important is buoyancy. A sea kayak should have enough.
