As far as putting your hearing aids in a sealed container: I don't have hearing aids in, but I've paddled with earplugs in when I've been practicing rolling to keep cold water (and wind) out of my ears. It felt a bit wierd; it's amazing how much you use audio stimuli, but I'm sure you know that.
I guess it's a matter of how well you function without hearing aids in. I know it's a bit wierd not hearing the waves, etc., but paddling without sounds is much better than not paddling at all.
Maybe you could buy some cheap hearing aids that wouldn't work as well as your good ones, but also wouldn't put you out of as much money should you take a swim in the drink.
