Hearing Aids & Kayaking

I'm thinking about taking up sea kayaking but am concerned about my hearing aids getting soaked if/when I get dumped in the water. Anyone else out there with this issue and how did you deal with it? It was suggested to me that since even people with normal hearing are hearing-impaired on a paddle because of wind and surf sounds, and communicate with hand signals. Perhaps I could just carry them in a sealed container during the paddle and wear them only on land.

Any suggestions/experience?
