hi frank, i think that i have only used my KEBT when i have put the mouthpiece in my mouth PRIOR to flipping, intentionally or otherwise. there should be very little water to blow out especially since the bulk ot the tube is in the hull.
hopefully some beginners can try the KEBT/mask technique for practice rolling and post their responses. it has been a long time since i learned to roll but as i recall it helped with orientation and confidence. there is one video that shows how the roll looks like underwater. the mask should provide the same insight.

: Not to burst your bubble, but you're comparing apples and oranges.
: First of all, you've just added as much as 2 feet of tubing to your snorkel,
: as you suggested in the design you proposed. That's a lot more water to
: expel than in a standard snorkel. For an 18 inch snorkel (which seems long
: to me) with a 1/3inch inner diameter (a little smaller than real life)
: that's 5 cubic inches of water...for a 30 inch tube with the same diameter
: it's 8.48 cubic inches of water, which is almost twice as much.
: Furthermore, snorkelers know when they're going under and are prepared to
: clear the tube, they don't have to do it from a position of not being able
: to see what they're doing or surprise.
: This I think would be the only realistic time to use one of these, but it
: will teach the person to rely on the tube, which is unrealistic in a
: real-world scenario. Most people don't paddle with a tube in their mouth
: on the off chance they're going to capsize. Conversely, if you are
: practicing rolls, you know when your going to capsize and can apropriately
: take a breath and hold it while you set up. Most folks can hold their
: breath for 20-30 seconds, which is more than enough time to set up, even
: if you don't know what you're doing. I don't see how the tube would give
: anyone the confidence to slow down any further than that.: FrankP
