Hey Risto,
Couple of things I did that helped my back:
I was having regular back pain moving my photo gear. An expensive sports doctor told me to
-Wear a weightlifting belt (I got a nylon one) when you're moving anything bulky or heavy-that kept me from constantly re-aggravating minor injuries. (don't get the thin useless ones used by guys moving boxes in chain stores)
-Abdominal exercises (sit-ups etc) I got an Abs of Steel videotape and did what they were doing, every other day. Strengthing the core muscles solves a lot of typical back pain.
-Swimming-freestyle swimming with a Masters Group 3-4 mornings a week is exercise, stretching and massage and you get to get wet. But make sure you're stroke is good. I fixed my back but wouond up with tendonitis in my shoulders.
-Pilates-After getting rear-ended in a traffic accident my back was a mess. After a few months of chiropractic (half good half voodoo) I was better but not quite. One month of Pilates, with a good coach did more than four months of chiropractor visits.
And if it hurts-stop.Will
: Hi all,
: last autumn there was a discussion here concerning back pains and kayaking.
: It was centered on the case where a disc has been damaged.: But one can also get back pains without any such damage ie. only the muscles
: supporting ones posture get stiff and cramped, and a vicious circle
: starts. No relaxation, cramps lead to more cramps, etc. Two questions for
: all who have been there or who have seen it: 1) how can one avoid this ie.
: the preventive action needed?: 2) if in the vicious circle, how does one get out?
