: I get the impression from the fact that this press release was posted on the
: school's website, the lead in was written by Mr. Hendrix who is also the
: person quoted as saying how great a job the guide and his company did in
: the past.: I suspect that the entire release was written by Jim Hendrix.
But you've misread. The press release says nothing about doing a "great job in the past", just that there have been "no safety incidents in the past". There's a world of difference between those two statements. Not blaming someone immediately, without the facts, is what PR types are supposed to do. They need to be as neutral as possible so they don't get sued for negligence (by parents) due to the deaths or defamation of character or slander (by the guide) or whatever. Add to that the fact that Hendrix and Hall are probably somewhat friendly (being coworkers), if not outright friends, and the reality that it was still a somewhat unsure situation and very traumatic for a lot of people, there really wouldn't and shouldn't be any finger pointing in a public statement from the school. That should, and likely will be, done after an official investigation is concluded by the authorities.
