: The point was about using a handle on a bow painter: makes for an easy and
: secure hold and is much better than just wrapping the rope
: ("painter") around one's hand.OK
: Apart from being useful if one has to get ashore without loosing the boat
: after a wet exit in shallow rocky lee conditions it also serves almost
: daily when landing onto rocky shores where one can climb ashore in one
: place and pull the boat up only some ways farther.Sure. Good idea.
: Funny how you seemed to miss the point altogether, and just commented the
: unimportant stuff.I got your point. I wasn't sure if you were familiar with the term "painter" or not, so I explained it. What are you getting all pissy about?
Funny how you ignored the questions/comments regarding critical safety equipment (deck lines) and rescue techniques (assisted rescues), and concentrated on the "unimportant stuff" (the painter line handle).
I've never found the need to exit my boat, swim to shore, then haul the boat in as you describe, but I can see where having a rope handy would be useful if that need ever arises. I'd probably just use my tow line, since it's longer (~10 meters), which would allow me to keep the boat out beyond the shore breakers. It's also attached to my waist by a belt, so I would have both hands free for swimming and wouldn't have to worry about dropping the line.
