: Ben,
: I've been thinking of installing recessed fittings in my kayak. I can't for
: the life of me find the link I'm thinking of, but somebody (from Germany,
: I think) had a nice design where you drill two closely-spaced holes, and
: thread in a piece of vinyl tubing with rope inside the tubing to keep the
: walls from collapsing. You glass this from the inside and pull the rope
: and tubing out post-cure.: With a wad of glass inside the loop of tubing, it should be tougher than the
: recessed fittings that are made from a plug of wood with a brass/SS/wood
: rod.I thought Peter Carter of the New South Wales (AUS) club had info on that design but after some time searching I've not been able to find what I was looking for. If you use the design Shawn suggests (which I like), give some thought to keeping the radii as larg as possible to spread out the stress.
