while i have a different personal reaction to the visibility issue, i think your idea is a good one. its somewhat similar to the idea of making the drysuit top a floatation device as well as a drysuit top.
for the parka, i would put the sprayskirt attachmt on top and therefor allow the crotch strap harness and i assume beavertail thermal crotch protection to be deployed. the use of latex wrist and neck seals is necessary.
the issue with the ocean parka is whether it will now breath w/ the seals on.(i see the ads say they do but sealed?) (another issue may be cockpit size if bulky.) If not, then maybe something like the mustang inflatable (small area profile when folded to keep breathability up) worn under a drytop might be an alternative w/ major exterior pockets for additionals. (whistle, epirb?,strobe, dye etc). harness not accounted for.
i think the idea of the floatation system also providing thermal protection as well (especially in the water) is a natural connection. like why not? a pfd is not placed to do this, but the possibility is right there, just a matter of where the membrane goes.
A stupid idea is to just put a wrap of plastic say 3/4 thick mesh around the body under the drysuit. like say a overvest. totally breathable and therefore provides a layer for thermal as well a flotation protection. prob too bulky tho.
i kinda thought that i'd take my box of condoms and just fill up all my pockets and if in the drink just start blowing them up and pushing them down my neck and wrists and up the waist. but i guess less useful towards the end of the trip.
