Good man dies

Heard today that a fellow I taught surfing to via a Gronseth course died while practicing rolling in Sitka Ak. Seems he hit his head on a rock while flipping over in the local harbour. A woman friend he was with tried her best to help him and medical attention was quickly administered, but Ken didn't make it. He had purchased Baidarka Kayaks in Sitka and had attended George's 5 day training course last summer, and the surf class as well. He was a cool man who was definitely trying to do things right. Spoke with George earlier today and we both surmised that it was simply a freak accident. He's apparently rolled successfully prior to his final / fatal attempt. How many of us wear a helmit when practicing in calm water? How many of us have felt our heads brush against the bottom? Really really sad to me. I really liked Ken and admired him. Reminds me of a Teton skier this winter who fell, shattered his graphite pole, which severed his femoral artery!!! He bled out within a couple of minutes! Sometimes it's just our time eh?
