This is my paddle float learning technique;

1. Put the float on the wrong end of the paddle.
2. Attempt roll.
3. If roll fails turn paddle around in your hands.
4. Roll up using float.

Try to keep the float assisted roll and the real roll as two distinctly different techniques.

Using the float on the wrong side might make a roll slightly easier than no float because it helps get your hands really high.

On the other hand you have this akward thing on the paddle.

If you are 100% with the assisted roll then you can practice the real roll over and over again without ever doing a wet exit.

Tips for float assisted roll:
Do 2 little sweeps to get a rocking motion going; then the real sweep.

If you have never done a float assisted roll, the first times it will be dificult to get fully upside down. You have to drive with the hands and really push the paddle and float down.

Disclaimer:
This seemed to work for me.
I am just a beginer with rolls.
I was 100% with a CLC North Bay and now switching to a different boat I am less than 50%.

: Well, the paddle float rolls are stronger on both sides today, but the
: no-paddle-float attempts failed miserably. I broke the footbrace in the
: new boat, and banged up the top of my foot in the process. The Spring Run
: seems a little easier to roll than the Cape Charles, but not all that
: much. I invested in a dive mask and that is really nice, I can look up and
: see how the setup is. Even after getting confused, I was able to re-setup
: and roll up. And, no sore shoulders either!

: I think taking a class now would really benefit me, as I have the basic idea.
: If I cant get into one next weekend, I may hold off a week. Kind of
: frustrating, I feel so close but so far...
