In Response To: weather cocking + blowing out to sea (barb todd)
Understand first that I am strongly anti-rudder. If a rudder is the only way to control the boat perhaps the conditions were beyond your skill level. You say the chop was "huge." It sounds like there must have been a pretty strong wind blowing. Any idea how strong? What model of boat were you paddling? You might hear back from other paddlers with similar experiences. One area I would investigate is boat trim. If you've got all your gear in the front hatch you may be more prone to severe weathercocking. Try trimming the boat with more weight to the rear.
