: I am an experienced wilderness canoeist who is planning to purchase a touring
: kayak for use on big lakes in the north. I have paddled kayaks on several
: occasions, but have never owned one. I live in a fairly remote location in
: northern Manitoba, and will not be able to test-paddle before I buy. I am
: considering plastic boats for the durability. Primary use will be
: multi-day trips, any thing from 3 to 14 days. I have narrowed my choices
: down to Current Designs Storm, Wilderness Systems Cape Horn 17, and Prijon
: Kodiak. Any comments from folks who have paddled any of these models? (I'm
: 6' tall, 200 lb.)
-----Ron, I'm your size and if I was buying a plastic boat I'd buy a Capella or a Skerray RMX. The Storm has had huge oilcanning problems though they say the newer ones are better. The C.D. Solstice GT will fit you well and haul plenty of gear. It's a nice, comfortable glass boat for a big guy, but it's pricey.
