: I have narrowed my choices down to Current Designs Storm, Wilderness Systems
: Cape Horn 17, and Prijon Kodiak. Any comments from folks who have paddled
: any of these models? (I'm 6' tall, 200 lb. )Please make sure it has the gas pedal rudder- such as the prijon- otherwise yoou will not have support for your feet to help you push off as you paddle. Maybe you could treat your self to a 10 day vacation and drive to a place like san diego. san diego kayak club www.sdkc.com and www.aqua-adventures.com/whalewatching.htm "Ask the man who owns one" not a whale but a boat or rents many. Shipping costs can be brutal so drive and buy used- after you test paddle! And then beware- every year the best paddlers die on a warm day in cold water. Please wear a helmet as the whitewater people always do near rocks. I hate carrying a 60# plastic boat- too easy to hurt the back loading or on a portage. And get some training in a place like san diego this winter. Do not go out in big water unless you really know what you are doing and even then realize that 10% of greenland paddlers died each year as they hunted at sea. SAfety training in san diego or some other place could save your life. But the best training is a healthy respect for the elements. Kayaking is fun and wonderful but first buy a wetsuit for your cold northern water. Again you could save big bucks as you buy used from s rental place.
