as you may already know, the pintail has considerable rocker for a 17 footer and is thus a very "playful" boat. it turns on a dime, leans and rolls easily, is a helluva surf boat and plays in the waves. it also plays in the waves when you may not want it to and track like a freight train in wind. i find myself using alot of skeg with this boat to keep it from misbehaving. i use my Romany Explorer for "big ocean" paddling, preferring its no nonsense approach to 6 foot seas or bigger. i think my Romany is a better "all around" boat if there is such a thing but every paddler needs a boat to "play" in and the Pintail is certainly one of the best.
