: I am an experienced wilderness canoeist who is planning to purchase a touring
: kayak for use on big lakes in the north. I have paddled kayaks on several
: occasions, but have never owned one. I live in a fairly remote location in
: northern Manitoba, and will not be able to test-paddle before I buy. I am
: considering plastic boats for the durability. Primary use will be
: multi-day trips, any thing from 3 to 14 days. I have narrowed my choices
: down to Current Designs Storm, Wilderness Systems Cape Horn 17, and Prijon
: Kodiak. Any comments from folks who have paddled any of these models? (I'm
: 6' tall, 200 lb.)G'day
I am 225 at 6' and have paddled the Storm and the Kodiak a fair bit . For Size and comfort I like the Kodiak better .That blowmolded plastic Prijon uses is good stuff. Azul sea kayaks is coming out with a Xytec 17'5" Spitfire in August built for large capacity and maneuvering , could be a good one.Call Langford Canoe in Ontario for a demo as they are running in your direction throughout the year.
Good Luck
Mark
