: Has anyone come up with a good way to empty one's bladder (male paddlers)
: while on the water? I imagine this would be next to impossible for
: females. If you're paddling with females in your group, they're even harder up for good options (other than rafting up, dropping trou' and peeing between the boats with one butt cheek on either aft deck; I've heard the feminine drainage gadgets are less-than optimum) so you'd better plan on more frequent shore breaks. Or, choose lady partners who are more hard core paddlers who don't mind sitting precariously between two boats and peeing amidst 3' waves, while a mixed-sex group looks on. Dinna think my wife will ever fit that subset.
On a related note, if you are paddling with ladies, encourage them to wear a two-piece swimsuit under their wetsuit. My wife wore a one-piece on our last trip, and it required she remove the entire top half of her outfit just to pee (and she even had on neoprene shorts and a fuzzy rubber top that "split" in a manner that only the bottom half would have to be uncovered. Rather than being able to just hunker behind a log where her behind wouldn't show, she had to traipse way off into the woods or past boulders and tidepools where she was completely out of sight of the group.
Even if she'd worn a farmer john, a bikini top would have ensured that she wasn't "inappropriately attired" if she dropped the shoulder straps and covered her lower half.
While we males really have it easy when it comes to peeing out-of-doors, females can make things a lot easier on themselves and the rest of their group if they put some forethought into their clothing choices.
Then again, I can change clothes after paddling in the middle of a crowded parking lot. I wrap a towel around my midsection so I'm not indecently exposing myself to anyone (I could care less, but I realize that it's not appropriate to display those areas while American children might be looking on). Guess I've been a kayaker longer.
"You know you're a kayaker if.."
