No, I haven't gone really short. Like you said by going with a relatively wide and short blade you can keep the center of effort out near the end making the paddle feel relatively longer and keep a relatively longer shaft. I would expect there is point of diminishing returns and of course how comfortable the paddle is will depend a good deal on the boat you are paddling. Lower, narrower boats will be more comfortable with shorter paddles.
One reason for long euro paddles is relatively wide boats with high coamings which benefit from added reach of long paddles. Arm position and comfort is as much dependant on the boat as it is the paddle.
: A while back I noticed that you said to someone asking about paddle length
: that you are using 200 euro yourself. Have you ever tried anything much
: shorter than this, something that would definitely have been too short?: I tried to make an old paddle of mine too short (before putting in a new
: shaft) just to see how it would be, but the damn thing wasn't. Instead I
: got to liking it too, at 188, and find it a nice thing to work out my
: rotation and back and side muscles with!: risto
