: Don,
: When I first tried the forward tilt, the paddle would dive towards the kayak.
: I made a concerted effort to stop this and now I don't really notice it
: anymore. I use a reverse tilt for bracing sometimes, but try to use the
: forward tilt that Greg describes for my forward stroke. I had to learn it
: from reading about Maligiaq Padilla, as there aren't a whole lot of
: Greenland style paddlers that I paddle with. I still have a lot to learn,
: but I am trying to get my speed equal to Jerry's (my former guide paddling
: partner).:
: MikeThis spring I read about the forward tilt and tried it with my euro paddle (I had recently converted to unfeathered in anticipation of trying Greenland style). I found that the blade did not dive and actually added stability. In the article I also read about Maligiaq Padilla getting power from the stroke as he retrieves the blade. With a forward tilt, I found that I did get power translated off the blade as it surfaced. Not a lot, but noticable.
At least with a Werner Camano the oval of the loom promotes a natural forward tilt for me. So it works with Euros too.
