The plans available from Guillemot are an excellent place to start, but I'd buy Nick's book rather than just the paddle plans. You'll get the paddle plans *and* all of that kayak building information.

Using the information in Nick's book as a starting point- my first paddle was OK. The second is prettier, shorter and lighter and the third (not yet started) should be just about perfect. Both paddles involved a fair amount of time and not much money, but building a paddle to *my* specifications was priceless.

CLC also has plans for a plain, economical paddle with plywood blades.
