Per capita, I'd guess
: that kayakers are the most poorly prepared people on the water. Before
: ya'll slam me, remember I am a kayaker, and I do not like to admit that we
: are (as a group) not too well prepared or knowledgeable, but sorry, that's
: what I see.I won't slam you M. Nor do I have any statistics on who or what defines "prepared". I have been on group paddles where skilled paddlers and unskilled paddlers entered into unspoken agreements of follow the leader that appeared to me to make for "accidents". I've also seen and heard of enough boating incidents to say that population isn't much different, except for the inclusion of more mass, velocity and alcohol.
What is it that you see in a group called "kayakers" that is the most poorly prepared people on the water? I can think of individuals that continue marginally unsafe practices in all their activities. The just happen to kayak, ride a bicycle, drive a car, drive a motorboat, sail, etc.
