: I'm almost finished with the boat and it's time to collect the gear. I'm
: looking for recommendations on wooden kayak paddles. Specifically, what
: brands have you been happy with. I'll paddle large lakes mostly with
: occasional trips to the ocean. My boat is a 17 foot Arctic Tern. Thanks in
: advance for the help.I have a Grey Owl euro paddle that I like very much and the Zu Zu paddles look interesting.Have you thought about making a greenland paddle.I made one recently from the plans on Chuck Holst's website and am slowly realizing that is the style I prefer.I made it from solid western cedar with ash tip and edge protectors.I did some decorative birch inlays at the root or fat part of the blade near the loom which gave me the opportunity to drill holes to save weight and increase bouyancy for sculling and rolling.Looks good and works as well as a
store bought paddle.I think everyone one who can should make there own,it's almost a more personal item than the kayak itself.
Blue skies and soft landing.
