I neglected to mention that you would have to constantly adjust your paddling strokes to keep moving in the direction that you wanted to go. Wind can spin a kayak around almost as easily as eddying currents can. You might be forced to paddle on one side only to keep going straight, or to paddle two strokes on portside and only one on the starboard side. That kidn of paddling can hurt after a while. By using hip control, more hip pressure on one side of the other of the kayak, you can assist in easing your way along.
