: your night vision and could just be left running.These red flashing lights (3 diodes and 2 AA batteries) in fact seem to be much more visible than corresponding white lights. I've used one when cycling on dark and shaded roads and they really get noticed when pointed forward, not back as they should.
Reciprocally, I myself often have trouble spotting an oncoming cyclist's white light in time (against a background of other white lights - cars mostly), while these red flashing things stand out from a far.
Also, being non-standard (illegal), they attract more attention - the "what the heck!!" effect.
