: Not well. The last thing you want to do is to add any back pressure to the
: pump system. Depending on the pump you use, it could have a dramatic
: effect on the pumping rate. Your best bet is to exhaust the water just
: above the waterline of the boat when the cockpit is full of water, which
: will probably be right along the gunwale line.

Would agree with the back pressure but:

If you exhaust just above the waterline then as waves pass up and down they will also rush in your exhaust tube/pipe and out again causing pressure shocks - negative and positive - far greater than the pump's rated pressure.

One can only guess what the result would be: my money would be on burning the pump's electric windings!

I would thus put the exhaust high and dry, and facing the rear of the boat.
