I solo the vast majority of the time. I have a few paddling buddies, and I like to paddle with them, but the real juice for me is getting back to that "in the momentness" rhythm of solo paddling. No one else there to break the flow, no worries about how my long (and contented) silence might be perceived, no trying to make calendars work out. I can be right there with the boat, sea and my own engine humming. Can't beat it.
I haven't gone on long solos, so I'll probably start with group trips. Someday I'll solo those too.
