I have owned both the Standard and the Garmin models. They are both fairly easy to operate even in a waterproof bag. Even the rotating nobs on the garmin are pretty easy one handed through a bag. I have acidentally switched on my garmin when it is on my deck by hitting it. Not a big deal, but I would hate to have my batteries run down before I need them. I would definately recommend using even a "submersible" radio in a waterproof bag. I like to keep my radio on my deck "just in case" and am on my third submersible of the season! The first two died due to water damage(one standard, one garmin). My latest (the Garmin) is surviving nicely in the bag that is no longer completely waterproof. Buy submersible, but keep it in a bag. When you need it is no time to take chances with it.
