: ---> agreed. ever run a rescue when the victim is in 'shock' and can't
: participate in the rescue. now there's an event! stabilizing the victims
: boat AND pumping it with a handheld at the same time AND setting his boat
: up for a stabilized tow. boy i hate when that happens. hahahaha ...Hi Dan
I wonder if anyone has here has experimented with the 'pfd leash' I proposed in early sept. One of its many variations is applying it to an unconscious or semi conscious victim. It allows a somewhat locked in hands free control of the victims cg , and somewhat thereby his yak. Since you use his locked in paddle you automatically(I mean within reason) get rafted up as well.
Simply speaking, you snap his paddle loom under his pfd belt, or leash the loom to his pfd belt or leash around his body under his pfd (and then above the belt so the paddle wont raise up or move from the central waist position or cg).It is easiest to be snuggish. Now pull the loom toward you, and the blade becomes a stop and will not pull thru. You now have a lever, or connection (to his cg) to do many many things.
If he's already in his boat pull him towards you, place the loom under your outside arm, maybe some wt on the i/s forearm (the loom rests on his coaming leveling his yak and almost hands free pumping.
If he's in the water and you cant lay him right back to roll him up, the pfd leash will give a huge amt of leverage.
If you just can't get him in, turn his yak upside down and pull him across w/ his legs on the outside.
If you have a paddl float, attatch that to the far side and get some extra floatation, pull him towards his sideways yak, try to feed his legs in, lay him back and lever up.
He can't roll towards you much as his paddle making the raft stops him.
I haven't tried these yet, and only mention them as you're playing around w/ these things and they may provide another more stabilized way to deal w/ a difficult and awkward situation.
