vhf suggestion

Some while back, seakayaker mag recommended either the lower priced and featured garmin 720 and more highly the horizon std 350s. I was just at a marine store, comparing the usability of the new comparable garmin 725 to the horizon 350s.
Assuming that the features of these are tradeoffs, the garmin 725 is way more usable in 2 ways for us.
1/If hand held, only one hand is req/d for the garmin as all buttons are push and close to the holding fingers. The horizon has as well as push 2 rotating knobs for squelch and vol(prob for on off too) on the rt hand top of the unit - just abt imposs to use w/ the holding hand so get out the leashes and drop the victim.
2/As well if the radio is put in a see thru radio bag, the horizon'd be way harder to use to turn the knobs.
(but conversely, maybe the large separation betw the controls would be an advantage when clipped on the pfd and using without looking- like do you use the vhf when it is clipped?)
The garmin looks like a nobrainer better usable unit, but does anyone w/ experience onthe waves have a comment?
