Jam Cleat Idea

: If anyone has a good idea for the knuckle-ripping skeg line jam cleat, I'd
: love to hear it, its the only badly designed element in the boat.If it's in a glass boat one of 2 possibilities, but essentially fittings should be flush to stop losing strips of flesh. So
1/ inset it. Route, cut, or file a slot for the fitting to exactly fit. Make a backing flange of glass and glass it in from behind. This is as straight forward as refitting any flush fixture.
2/ throw it away. Drill a 3/8 hole in the yak and a 1/4 hole,v-grooved 1 in away in front. Cover up w/ tinypc of 1/4 foam from behind and glass up. Now the deck is the fitting.
If the hull is a little thin here, add a couple small 2in by 2in layers first before drilling and adding back flange.Your choice. Cut the yak or it cuts you. But you only have to cut it once.
