I really like the look of the Ellesmere ! have you had
it in the surf and or blowing wind.?Mark ,
Had to jump in, I aquired a keyhole ( long) cockpit version of the Ellesmere this summer and its a nice boat. Its very easy to enter and exit, but still has great contact. Front hatch leaks during roll practice, rear is fine. I'll check the hull fitting seal.
It weathercocks without the skeg, but is very neutral when deployed. Ditto for downwave, it broaches easily without skeg compared to my other non-skeg boats which don't have as much rocker. But its very low profile means headwinds don't affect it at all, except its a wet boat in waves. I paddle the open Great Lakes in Canada which have short, choppy wind waves much of the time.
Its a nice boat to daypaddle in moderate conditions, fast, comfortable, and really nimble.
If anyone has a good idea for the knuckle-ripping skeg line jam cleat, I'd love to hear it, its the only badly designed element in the boat.
Thanks in advance,
Ray
