Hi Bruce,

Welcome to the world of ocean kayaking.

This whole site is chock-full of links and info on the subject. There are links to groups, magazines and other bulletin boards that will help you get a perspective of what you need to learn and how to address various problems.

Use the time between now and the spring to educate yourself on the subject and you will be surprized at how much you understand once you are out on the water. If you can not find an instructor do not despair. There are many ocean kayakers who are self taught (I'm one) and it is not unreasonable to assume that you can do it too.

The books Shawn mentioned are all excellent.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions on this bulletin board. We all want you to enjoy kayaking in a safe manner and will help out any way we can.
