Hi Murray,

You know, someday you and I are just not going to agree on something. But today is not that day.

You are absolutly right, more effort is put into making excuses why people can't or don't need to roll than it takes to learn to roll. And you are right in you observation that the best rolling students often have the least experience. I have seen significant success teaching non-rollers to hand-roll WW boats. But with experienced paddlers it a whole different issue. Their heads are so full of mis-information about rolling that they make it much more difficult than it could be.

I was once accused of being a skills-nazi by a poster on another group. So I won't be defending sponsons or complicated, equipment dependent techniques any time soon. People should understand that the sea is not the least bit forgiving of stupidity and the the proper skills seasoned with some good judgement is all they will ever need. Maybe I'm just taking the soft-sell approach or as my father used to say "You'll catch more flies with sugerwater than with vinegar". Please don't stop posting on this thread, your opinions are exactly what people need to hear.

Jed
