Hi Buck, You've defined your intended use well but left out your size. IMHO the Eclipse and Looksha are big boats. Which is great if you are 200lbs+ and primarily day paddle yet still have plenty of room for that "trip. Most folks paddle and learn in unloaded boats which kind of implies folks are paddling boats with lots of excess capacity. Be honest about your intended use. You'll have a lot more fun tossing around a lighter smaller boat if the wind and waves get too big than if you are in a kayak that could benefit from an extra 40 or so lbs. If you are closer to the 150lb range I'd strongly consider the Shadow or Looksha Sport. If you are at the upper end of the scale 190+ then the Looksha is less of a bother from a weathercocking standpoint, the sea lion/eclipse has the rudder kind of high in the air when not deployed. But which ever one you get,,,, it really won't matter, they both work, the Eclipse is a predictable and uncomplicated design, the looksha in plastic overcomes some of the goofiness of dual chines(which probably contribute more to preventing than handling). It makes more of a difference what you do with the paddle. Have fun and be willing to get as wet as you can.
