Interesting thread! I'm finding, even as a beginner roller, that variety is good. If I miss a forward roll, I may be in position for a sweep. And certainly not having an offside is helpful already, as others have stated once you blow one side, you are pretty close to set up on the other. I gotta get out and practice! Thanks!
: Hi All,
: I read Greg Stamer's post with this heading and it reminded me of something I
: had meant to say with regard to rolling when Don Beale was learning.: When learning to roll do you think it is better to learn a bunch of different
: techniques or just one technique?: My opinion is that having just one technique that you can do extremely well
: is far superior in an emergency situation. You do not have to decide which
: roll you are going to use or all the little intricacies that make that
: particular one work, you just have to do the roll that you always do and
: remember the little things for it.(Actually, the little things will be so
: ingrained you will not even have to think of them.): So my view is, one technique, one broken paddle modification and practice,
: practice, practice.: Ian
