There's no need to get "freaked out" over your experience. You just need to learn a couple of simple tricks for dealing with latex seals. Chances are that you will own one or more paddling garments with latex seals in your lifetime, as they're the best way of sealing out water.
You can eliminate the problems with getting into the suit by applying a little talc to the seals. The difference is absolutely night and day, as the talc removes the stickiness of the latex. Your hands, feet and head will slide through easily. It also helps a little when taking the garment off, but not as much.
Stretching the neck seals as has been suggested also makes a huge difference. My dry suit was unbearable when I first put it on, but now it's quite comfy.
It's up to you whether to keep the suit or not, but don't let a single bad experience turn you off towards all paddling clothing with latex seals.
