Ian, I don't think your logic is wrong here. In many ways I agree! I think however that the type of individual who is drawn to learning many rolls is the type of person who is interested in mastery. Most kayakers will do well to perfect one real world roll that works! So for practicality I think your stance is correct for most kayakers. But for those with the interest and aptitude to try other rolls, more power to them. I do only one on one instruction, and I teach rolling first with great success. Like you I focus on them achieving a very good roll on each side. As this becomes second nature then they start playing with things, and that can only be good. The only WRONG thing that I see/hear are perfectly able people who have been convinced that a roll is not necessary in sea kayaking. To me this is a shame. Take care MH
