Spent eight days at ASSC this September, doing a 4 star assessment and 5 star training. I knew I had a fine boat in the Romany 18 before I went. After a week in the races and overfalls and banging off the rocks and cliffs my respect for ND's creation about quadrupled. The Explorer took very good care of me in some very big water. Like Nigel says, " Stay relaxed and keep paddling"...the boat will do the rest.
I hung out some in the shops where the boats are made. They put out 10 a week. There are some changes for next season. They are working on a sliding skeg control, a slightly longer Romany HV, and a very fast very narrow kayak for intermed/adv paddlers under 140 lbs (marketed to women). The seats are now rolled over on the posterior rim so you don't pinch your butt as often. They say they check each boat for leaking before it goes into the container. Both of my NDK boats have leaked badly, but I trust them to get me through. There are other great boats out there, but the Explorer is my great boat. Sponge not included.Carl
