Hi Wayne, Jed and All,
It is my experience from other areas that simple is always better. There are lots of fancy things that can be done with a kayak and they do teach good boat handling.
My feelings on the subject are that when kayaking we need a roll that works 100% of the time. Anything less is not adaquate. By dividing your practice time between many different rolls are you in fact sacrificing the 100% ?
When I study karate I have many different techniques to chose from but when in a life threatening situation I will always use a select few because they are effective nearly 100% of the time (so far it is actually 100% but there is always the chance). They are the simplist, most efficient techniques.
Why would a life saving technique in kayaking be different than that in another situation?
Ian
