Has anyone used the Kokotat
: Eco-Tour top? It doesn't have a latex neck gasket, would it be adequate
: protection for cold water imersion?I have a Koko gortex semi dry which was sold through Mountain Coop in Canada, which I think is the same item..it uses a neoprene-like neck seal which velcros shut, and has latex wrist gaskets. Its waist seal is neoprene but without an inner tunnel. Its not bad for protection, but if the waist is not snugged up real tight it will seep. The neck is not bad for seepage, but if you're rolling a lot its not as good as a latex gasket.
Overall its a very comfortable top, the gortex is very worthwhile, and the flexibility of having a loose neck when you want it is great. I'm happy with it. I use it with farmer johns or even just neoprene shorts for colder water paddling, and just a fleece undergarment.
I've tested it in capsize situations and it definitely prevents cold water shock, but it would likely get wet in prolonged immersion. But its comfort means I wear it without reservation which I think is important.
