I use a similar leash to the one in the picture (last post above this one) that I made from bungie. The differentce is that I lashed a loop on one end that is slightly tight on the loom and had no ball. On the other end I lashed a wrist sized loop with a bit extra. The extra was for a practice golf ball ("wiffle"type with holes) that I put in the loop (before lashing, obviously). I threaded the bungie through two holes near each other so that the majority of the ball was outside the loop. I then secured the ball in position by lashing to the bungie around the outside between the holes, locking the ball in place.
I like the design because I can roll the leash around the loom and secure it with the ball through the loop when not on my wrist. The pressure of the bungie against itself keeps it tight on the loom. The ball easily slips under a deck bungie, leaving the paddle secure but a quick snatch away from being usable again.
