: So the only issue in surf is sand in the water.I find that salt water burns my eyes, nose and throat much more than fresh water does. My sinuses don't like either one. Sea water may have the same salinity as blood plasma, but other bodily fluids have different salinity levels. I agree that the major issue in surf is the sand, but it's not the only issue, at least not for me.
