: Do you recomend any books or what?

Books are useful. A few that I like are:

- The Essential Sea Kayaker
- The Complete book of Sea Kayaking
- Nigel Foster's Sea Kayaking

and everyone should own a copy of Sea Kayaker: Deep Trouble

Although these books will get you started, there's no better way to learn than through direct instruction. Consider taking lessons from a local coach. Check around your local area for clubs that may offer instruction or informal skills sessions. Here in northern New England, the North Shore Paddler's Network (www.nspn.com) is very big on skills teaching. I learned more in one summer of paddling with them than I could have in a decade on my own.

It's also helpful to paddle with better paddlers than yourself. You can learn a lot by 'osmosis" that way.
