Ive noticed that the board hass tapered off, too. I think the investment of cold weather gear maybe keeping people off the water? Or the perception that "it's too cold" when really, if dressed right, it's no problem and the scenery is better in a lot of ways.
I had my son out at Seaside yesterday. He didnt have too much fun, I suspect mostly because the wetsiut he is usung restricts his shoulder movement too much, and this helps his hands get cold. Next trip he'll wear farmerjohn bottom and pile/raincoat above. Hope he doesnt dunk! We stay in calm water, dont freak! I was a little frustrated waiting around for him and that didnt help. Gotta get his forward stroke improved.
: When the paddling gets really good, there's no interest. Looking at this
: board it seems that folks just STOP paddling in the winter. In the Pacific
: Northwest sea kayaking effectively stops. I love skiing, but I'd sure
: encourage folks to paddle in the off season. Quiet, no bugs, fun water
: conditions. Do so safely though. Have a great winter.
