I went to a demo by Derek Hutchinson last spring, He uses a paddle leash attached to his wrist. He performed many of the techniques discussed in this thread with a leash and had no problems. The one big thing he discussed regarding the leash was the length. It should not be any longer than whats required to grip the end of the paddle. The attachment point on the paddle sliped up and down the loom with ease. The type of leash he had is available from Campmor and had a little plastic ball on the end so it can be sliped under a deck bungie when you want to let go of the paddle.
