: Why would there be any difference between Greenland and Euro paddles in this
: regard? The basic principles and motions of rolling, bracing and sculling
: are the same regardless of the paddle type. Most Euro instruction emphasizes keeping the hands in a common position for paddling, bracing and rolling (to avoid losing your grip on the paddle) while Greenland techniques generally use an extended paddle, holding the blade of the paddle near the tip or at any place in between. The range of motion can be several feet in some cases. Also, certain techniques, like the sliding stroke, involve the movement of both hands along the paddle. I have never tried a leash on a Greenland paddle, but experiment to ensure that it does not inhibit these techniques or pose a hazard with entanglement.
