I was afraid somewhat might ask that. It was just an intuative guess, a hypothesis that would require testing by scientific methods to verify. I would take this opportunity to refine, or more correctly, unrefine my guess to be approximately 3% to 5% of paddling speed depending on the quantity, depth, and nature of hull scratches. Raised areas on the edges of a scratch will certainly have more of a speed reduction effect than the recessed parts of scratches.
